Breaking, News, Pop

4th June 2017

Ariana Grande’s manager, Scooter Braun, has confirmed that the One Love event held in memory of the victims of the Manchester terror attack two weeks ago, will still take place this evening. He said that the show will go on “with greater purpose” after the terrorist attack last night in London which left 7 dead and 48 injured.

In an Instagram post this morning he said “After the events last night in London, and those in Manchester just two weeks ago, we feel a sense of responsibility to honor those lost, injured, and affected. We plan to honor them with courage, bravery, and defiance in the face of fear. Today’s One Love Manchester benefit concert will not only continue, but will do so with greater purpose. We must not be afraid, and in tribute to all those affected here and around the world, we will bring our voices together and sing loudly. I am pleased to say we have the full support of Greater Manchester police and the government and are assured the safety of all those attending is the highest priority. All artists involved have been unwavering in their support this morning and are determined to carry on with the show. We ask the strong city of Manchester and the world to join us in making the statement that hatred and fear will never win. Today we stand together. Thank you.”

Siboney + Andy // Secret

Breaking, Emerging Artists, Ones to Watch, Pop

1st December 2016

After years of toil in the studio and on the live circuit, Australian-born London locals Siboney & Andy have finally released their debut EP. ‘Secret’ is the perfect bite-sized introduction to this duo who have earned their stripes as veterans of the live scene and are now aiming to truly make their mark as recording artists. Both handle song-writing duties while Siboney takes the lead on vocals and Andy helms the production and instrumentals; an approach that works well.

Each song brings an entirely new flavour to the equation, creating within the space of only 4 tracks a surprisingly compatible blend of genres. The underlying (or perhaps overlying) theme is well-crafted, good-for-your-ears pop music. But it’s a pop comprised of everything from indie, electronica and at times even a touch of folk, just for good measure.

Standout track ‘See Me Through The Night’ is a great example of their ability to come together to write a genuinely beautiful song. It serves as a great opener and really gives Siboney the opportunity to show her chops as a singer.

Their first single ‘Secret’ sees them sharing vocal duties, using the opportunity to delve into deeper, more emotive territory. As they both sing of betrayal and a forbidden love, piercing guitars both acoustic and electric give it a distinct edge. It stands in stark opposition to the following track ‘Mexico’ which immediately switches mood and brings the fun. Built around a breezy instrumental, this track was made for carefree days of sunshine and road trips.

Their first recorded outing as a duo brings a lot to the table, but it’s the marriage of their crisp, unfaltering production and Siboney’s standout vocal performances that really make this an essential release and a stellar debut effort. Watch this space!

Album Review // Gracie Schram “Dear Fall” EP

Country, Emerging Artists, Singer/Songwriter

27th September 2016

After her tour with American Idol runner-up David Archuleta earlier this year, Gracie Schram is now living in Nashville, TN. No stranger to the city, Gracie has been coming to and from Nashville for the past few years in order to network and get her name known around town.

Gracie’s first release was when she was just 10 years old and now, she’s releasing her newest EP, “Dear Fall,” which is set to be released on September 30th. This EP was coproduced by Brad Corrigan and Rick Seibold.

I had the honor of listening to Gracie’s new EP before its release this Friday.

The EP opens with upbeat, summery track “Anywhere You Go,” which oftentimes serves as Gracie’s set opener. The song is sure to be a crowd favorite with its melodic “ohs” in the chorus and its lyrics about young love that were written to sing along to. The chorus’ lyrics “Oh / you know / I’ll go anywhere you go /oh / I love you so / I’ll go anywhere you go” are simple and sweet — a combination that makes Gracie Schram shine above the rest.

The second track “Walls” is perhaps the most relatable track on the EP. Gracie says that throughout her tour with David Archuleta, this was the song that got the best reception among the audience. The piano driven music and heartfelt lyrics go hand in hand to make “Walls” the most emotional song on the release and the string section adds that little extra spark.

“You Are My Sunshine” is a cover that combines two classics, “You Are My Sunshine” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.” This track seems destined to be on the hit television show Nashville. The two songs’ lyrics go together like peanut butter and jelly and Gracie makes it even more flavorful by employing beautiful harmonies. You can check out a live preview of the song below.

The last song on the EP is called “Don’t Cry Lullaby,” which is from the Ileana’s Smile soundtrack. Inspired by a girl named Ileana who was born and raised in a trash dump in Nicaragua, Gracie wrote the song for the movie after she was asked by Dispatch’s drummer Brad Corrigan. Just as its title suggests, “Don’t Cry Lullaby” makes you feel like you’re being wrapped in a long-overdue big bear hug. Ever since she was 10 years old, Gracie has been trying to change the world through her music, and “Don’t Cry Lullaby” has the power to do just that.

After the success of her previous release, I Am Me, and the quality of the upcoming EP, Dear Fall, it will be no surprise if Gracie charts on iTunes or on Billboard again like she did last time around. It’s only a matter a time before Gracie Schram has big artists opening for her on a sold out tour.

M.I.A shares ‘Freedun’ collab with Zayn Malik ahead of album release

News, Pop, R&B/Hip-Hop, Singer/Songwriter

3rd September 2016

Hip Hop artist M.I.A has shared a new track ahead of her album launch, expected out on 9th September.

The song called ‘Freedun’ features former One Direction singer-songwriter Zayn Malik, who since leaving the band has forged his own career with the release of his debut album on 25th March 2016, one year to the day after he left One Direction.

His new style of adult themed alt-r&b with a twist of pop aligns well with M.I.A’s, despite her saying in an interview with Annie Mac that working together took them both a little out of their comfort zones.

“It sort of takes me out my comfort zone but kind of takes him out of his a little bit as well. It just worked out.”M.I.A, Interview with Annie Mac, BBC Radio 1

‘AIM’ will be M.I.A’s fifth studio album to date, ‘Freedun’ becoming the third taster of what’s to come on the record after previous releases ‘Bird Song’, produced by the artists previous partner Diplo, and ‘Go Off’, a collaboration between Skrillex and DJ Blaqstarr.

MTV may change VMA broadcast after further ratings drop

Breaking, Business, Editors Choice, Videos

2nd September 2016

The MTV Video Music Awards have been around since 1984 – originally created as an alternative to The Grammy Awards, the show has for a long time now been considered one of the biggest players in the music award scene. But their audience’s habits are changing.

The latest award show, held on Sunday 28th August managed to attract 6.5 million viewers across Viacoms 11 television networks (including MTV). This compared to 2015 where the VMA’s pulled in over 10 million viewers on broadcast night – the ceremony is losing a lot of eyes on screens, and MTV knows why.

Traditionally, MTV broadcasts the show live at 9pm on the east coast, and then at 9pm in other time zones via tape delay. This is down to the fact that advertisers will pay more for prime time television slots.

But two days after the VMA’s, MTV have announced that they will consider airing the show live across the US in one go. This, to create a bigger buzz around the event but also because MTV is coming to understand that their audience is now online – and they need to bring the television event to them.

Sean Atkins, MTV President told Billboard: “In a world where you are multi-platforming, when I can experience it on my feed from my friends on Facebook who are in New York, are you better off just going live?” he asked. “You give everyone essentially equal access to every platform at the same time.”

Viacom announced on Monday that in total there were 149 million streams of VMA content across the Sunday event and Monday afterwards. This was a combination of live stream through the MTV.com website and video marketing on social networks like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube.
